Safety Management

A Safety Management System (SMS) is a systematic, explicit and comprehensive approach for the management of safety risks, that integrates operations and technical systems with financial and human resource management, for all activities related to an air operator or an approved maintenance organisation's certificate.

A Safety Management System is a business like approach to safety. In common with all management systems a safety management system provides for goal setting, planning and measuring and improving performance. It concerns itself with organisational safety rather than the conventional health and safety at work concerns. A Safety Management System is woven into the fabric of the organisation.
